WGC Joins Industry Health & Safety Committee

In anticipation of re-starting film and television production in Canada prior to the creation of a COVID-19 vaccine, the Guild has joined an industry health and safety committee working with the Ontario provincial government to draft updated health and safety guidelines.

WGC Executive Director Maureen Parker and Natalia Escobar Bohorquez, Director of Strategy & Research, are currently collaborating with representatives of other industry associations and unions, including ACTRA, CMPA, DGC and IATSE, serving on the committee.

Its goal is to develop a user-friendly COVID-19 health and safety guidelines document that incorporates expert advice, allows for alignment with provincial and federal public health and government protocols, and promotes the safe return to work prior to the availability of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Guild's representatives will be looking at best health and safety practices for writers' rooms and writers on set, in particular, as the industry prepares for its imminent re-opening. We'll keep you updated as developments occur.
